Though many different designs would be introduced later in the series, it is the Luke Skywalker lightsaber that will always be remembered in Star Wars history as being the first one seen on screen. For A New Hope, Luke's lightsaber prop was created from an antique flashgun. Seven T-shaped grips were added to the lower circumference and a 1970's calculator display component topped off the "control box". A simple picture hanger and a D-ring riveted to the bottom allowed the weapon to be worn on a belt loop... So was born the iconic Skywalker lightsaber. Utilizing an original flashgun, original sourced parts used on the actual filming prop and numerous high-resolution archival images supplied by Lucasfilm for reference, MR was able to ensure the utmost accuracy demanded by collectors.
