The TIE/ln is the standard fleet-based TIE fighter and was developed shortly after the company came under direct control of the Imperial Navy. The newer upgraded TIE interceptor, with its more powerful ion engines and increased firepower, is faster, more maneuverable, and far more lethal than the basic TIE/ln. Twin-ion engines provide the propulsion for these fighters, which are controlled by a single pilot. The distinctive solar-array wings that jut from the spherical command pod gather light and convert it into energy that powers the propulsion and weapon systems.
