Six years later, Anakin and Obi-Wan travel to a snow-covered planet to retrieve Ilum crystals which will be used to build Anakin's lightsaber. The Jedi scale the cliffs leading to the Crystal Cave only to find their path blocked by fierce predators called gorgodons. Anakin kills a gorgodon and the remaining creatures flee. Anakin and Obi-Wan go further into the cave where Obi-Wan has visions of Qui-Gon's death. Meanwhile, Anakin has visions of his mother and of Darth Maul. When Anakin awakens from his visions, he is holding a completed blue-bladed lightsaber.Anakin and Obi-Wan return to the Jedi Temple where the Jedi Council assigns them to an escort mission involving the insectoid Colicoids. They are brought aboard the Colicoid diplomatic ship despite the fact that the Colicoids do not welcome the Jedi presence. Anakin and Obi-Wan talk about Zora, who was once the Jedi named Siri, Padawan to Adi Gallia. Siri had left the Jedi Order after a severe disagreement with her Master during a mission to Kessel. Anakin starts becoming restless until Krayn's ship attacks. With the diplomatic ship helpless against the firepower of Krayn's heavily armed ship, Anakin and Obi-Wan use a shuttle to infiltrate Krayn's ship and are able to disable Krayn's weapons systems. Anakin goes off on his own to hunt down the slave trader Krayn but Obi-Wan finds and convinces his Padawan to return to their shuttle. Before they can both board the ship, they see Zora looking down upon them. Zora sends Obi-Wan and his ship back into space just before Krayn's ship blasts into hyperspace. Anakin is left behind and Zora secretly conceals Anakin's lightsaber, telling Krayn that Anakin is just another slave.Obi-Wan returns to the Colicoid ship and is brought back to Coruscant. He confers with his old friends Didi and Astri who give the Jedi a lead on Krayn's whereabouts. From the informant Gogol, Obi-Wan learns that the Colicoids are trying to take over the spice trade and are working with the pirate Krayn to use his spice processing plants on Nar Shaddaa. Obi-Wan once again addresses the Jedi Council and learns about Siri's undercover mission to infiltrate Krayn's pirate organization.After five days of slavery at the factories of Nar Shaddaa, Anakin befriends a Twi'lek slave named Mazie. He spots the captain of the Colicoid ship, Anf Dec, and realizes that the Colicoids have been working with Krayn all along. Nearby, Obi-Wan disguises himself as a slave trader named Bakleeda and takes part in the negotiations between Krayn and the Colicoids.It has been two weeks since Anakin was first taken as a slave. Anakin learns more about Krayn's raid on the Mos Espa slave quarters where Mazie was abducted. Mazie tells him of the fate of Hala, the mother of Anakin's friend, Amee. While going down to tour the spice processing facilities on Nar Shaddaa, Obi-Wan is ambushed by Krayn's Wookiee associate, Rashtah. Obi-Wan is forced to kill the Wookiee in self-defense. Elsewhere, Anakin calls Zora a Jedi as Krayn appears. Krayn despises all Jedi and orders both Zora and Anakin to confinement. The two Jedi plot to encourage the Colicoids to overthrow Krayn. Obi-Wan goes to see Krayn and Krayn immediately realizes that Rashtah has failed. Berri retrieves Siri and Anakin's lightsaber and the Jedi escape to convince Mazie to lead a slave revolt. They also convince Aga Culpa to turn against Krayn. Siri goes to the Colicoids currently in discussion with Obi-Wan who is still disguised as a slave trader. Together they convince the Colicoids to turn against Krayn. The slaves of Nar Shaddaa revolt while Aga Culpas guards stand aside. Anakin finds and kills Krayn, though Obi-Wan grows concerned after witnessing the blank expression on Anakin's face when his Padawan delivers the killing blow.In the aftermath, Krayn's pirate empire is completely destroyed. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine travels to Nar Shaddaa personally to bring Obi-Wan, Siri, and Anakin back to Coruscant. Anakin Skywalker is no longer a boy, but not yet a young man.
