starwars.com Collecting Cargo Bay Help

Welcome to the Cargo Bay Collector's Database
Beginning with the promise of 12 simple action figures at the end of 1977, the era of the Star Wars collector was born. For more than twenty-five years, licensed Star Wars items have allowed fans to enhance their enjoyment of the saga.

We have set up the starwars.com Cargo Bay as a place to store, explore, track and learn about the world of licensed Star Wars collectibles of every shape and size.

Like starwars.com, the Cargo Bay will start small but grow and expand over time to accumulate and gather a complete history. Check back often to see what new goodies our binary load-lifting droids will haul in on a regular basis.

Browsing the Cargo Bay
The entries in the Cargo Bay manifest have been organized into browsable categories.

At the bottom of each page, you will find links to the eight top-level categories: Apparel, Audio, Books, Games, Miscellaneous, Print, Toys, and Video. Click on a category to begin. You will then be presented with a set of sub-categories. Select the sub-category you are interested in, until your selection is narrowed to a list of specific products. From there, click on a selection to view the product detail.

At the top of a category or product page, there is a list of the related higher-level category links providing a "bread crumb" trail that you can use to find your way back to browse other types of similar products.

In addition, starwars.com Hyperspace members can rapidly navigate the entire hierarchy of categories on a single page using Cargo Bay QuickBrowse. Simply click on the + and – icons to expand or fold the details and subcategories you want to see.

Product Details
When you select a collectible from a list, you will be presented with the details about that item available in our Cargo Bay manifest.

The level of detail may vary, but will include information like manufacturer or publisher, an approximate release date, the original suggested retail price, part numbers or ISBN, country of origin, the creative team (authors, illustrators, composers), descriptions and product images.

At the right, you may also see links to help you price compare and purchase the item online, as well as links to related character, vehicle or technology entries within the starwars.com databank.

Searching the Cargo Bay
There are two ways to search the Cargo Bay: basic key word search, and Advanced Search exclusively for starwars.com Hyperspace members.

Near the bottom of each Cargo Bay page you will find a search box where you can enter key words to find a list of matching collectibles.

Currently, our search droid is limited to matching whole words. If you are looking for your favorite Wookiee, typing "Chewbacca" will find matches, but "Chew" or "Chewbac" will not. Also, key word searching is limited to product name and manufacturer at this time.

From any search, category or product detail page, you can click on a manufacturer, creative team member or special label to find other collectibles that share that attribute. Additionally, clicking on a date in the "Release Calendar" box to the right will search for products scheduled to come out that month.

We plan to install an updated search droid in the future with more advanced capabilities.

Cargo Bay Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Why has a certain product been omitted?

No collectible item is ever omitted from the Cargo Bay, it just hasn’t been added yet! Over the coming months (and possibly years) thousands of items will be added to the manifest for your enjoyment. With 25 years of history to draw from and continual excitement on the horizon, it’s a good thing we have a lot of room.

We will be focusing on some of the newest items and items of broadest interest, but there should be plenty of obscurities and gems to find as well.

The Cargo Bay will not include unofficial and unlicensed items.

    2. Where can I buy the products in the Cargo Bay database?

For many of the most recent products, the Cargo Bay provides links to find the item online. This includes links to the official Star Wars Price Comparison site hosted by CNet, where you can quickly find the best deal.

    3. What is the price shown? How much is the item worth?

Where available, the Cargo Bay includes data on the items original suggested retail price at the time of the time’s release.

Cargo Bay does not attempt to provide secondary-market values for any items. As with anything, the definition of the worth of an item varies from level of personal sentimentality to the pure economics of "as much as someone will pay for it".

    4. Is that the exact release date?

Cargo Bay release dates are generally approximations based on best-available information. For upcoming products, schedules and circumstances and anomalies of distribution can cause unexpected changes.
